About this tender

Brabus Shadow 800 Suntop - what we know.

The Brabus Shadow 800 is the Mercedes tuner's collaboration with Axopar, built on the Axopar 37 hull with a power, finish and styling upgrade that aims at the chase-boat market. At 11.2m and 3.3m beam it sits in the same dimensional class as the Aston Martin AM37 and several custom RIBs, with a clear finish-and-power positioning rather than a weight or hull innovation. The result is a credible day boat or coastal chase tender for owners who want the Brabus look against a sea backdrop.

Power is twin Mercury Verado 400R supercharged outboards, totalling 800 hp and good for 50 knots top speed with a sensible 40 knot cruise. The 730 litre fuel tank gives a working range that frames this as a coastal tool, not a long-leg chase boat. Where it earns its space is the cabin option: a small enclosed berth aft of the helm, finished to BRABUS standards, makes this a genuine weekender rather than just a fast day boat.

Highlights

Built for the work.

The four details we'd point out first to a captain who hasn't seen one on the water yet.

01

Axopar 37 hull, BRABUS finish

The hull is the Axopar 37 twin-step deep-V, which is a strong starting point. Brabus reworks the deck, paint, upholstery and electronics package, with signature gunmetal grey paintwork and red interior detailing being the brand-identity headline. The build standard sits a clear step above the donor Axopar 37, particularly on hardware and trim.

02

Twin Mercury 400R, 50 knots

Twin Mercury Verado 400R supercharged V8 outboards give 800 hp total. Top speed is 50 knots; cruise is around 40 knots; 287 mile range at cruise on the petrol tank. The outboard configuration keeps the bilge clean and service straightforward, which matters on a day boat that may live on a tender lift rather than at a marina berth.

03

Limited-edition build philosophy

Each Shadow generation launches as a limited edition with a signature colour scheme, then opens up to broader customer-specified finishes. Brabus emphasises that no two boats will look the same, which holds up against what we see on the brokerage market. Lead times are longer than equivalent Axopar production hulls, so factor that into ordering.

04

Optional aft cabin

The Axopar 37 platform supports an enclosed aft cabin with two to four berths, and most Shadow 800 hulls we see are specified with it. This turns the boat into a credible weekender for two and a usable shelter from weather on day work. The pure open-cockpit configuration is lighter and gives more deck volume but is less versatile.

Questions, answered

Before you enquire.

Shadow 800 or Aston Martin AM37?
Both are 11m petrol day boats with strong brand positioning. The AM37 is hand-built in low volume in Hampshire and feels closer to a custom build; the Shadow 800 is a tuned production hull with broader dealer support and shorter lead times. We tend to recommend the Shadow 800 for owners who want a working day boat and the AM37 for owners who treat it more as an art-piece tender.
What is the realistic chase range?
On the 730 litre petrol tank at 40 knot cruise, expect around 250 to 280 nautical miles of practical range, dropping fast at top speed. This frames the Shadow 800 as a coastal chase or fast tender rather than a long-leg support boat. For longer transits, build the fuel plan around a refuel from the mothership.
Is petrol an issue in the Mediterranean?
It is something to plan around. Petrol is available in most major Mediterranean marinas but at variable prices and not always at the volumes a 730 litre tank wants. The mothership's bunkering programme can usually accommodate, but build that into the day plan rather than relying on dockside availability.
Will it fit a 50m yacht's tender garage?
The 11.2m LOA is at the upper end of typical large-yacht tender garages. Outboard transom geometry adds practical length for the launch and recovery clearance. Run the dimensions and weight against the mothership's lift and garage specification before committing. For tighter garage envelopes, consider the smaller Shadow 500 Cabin instead.

Brabus

Bottrop, Germany

Brabus is a German high-performance tuning and manufacturing company founded in 1977 in Bottrop, in the Ruhr region of Germany. The name is drawn from the opening letters of the two founders' surnames: Brackmann and Buschmann. The automotive business, built on bespoke Mercedes-Benz, Maybach, and Smart modifications, underpins everything Brabus brings to the water. Brabus Marine is the result of a collaboration launched in 2019 with Finnish builder Axopar Boats, and the pairing is direct: Axopar supplies the hull engineering; Brabus layers on the performance calibration, in-house carbon fibre parts manufactured at the Bottrop headquarters, fine leather interiors, and the signature dark-on-dark exterior graphics.

The Shadow range spans four size bands from 25 to 45 feet. The Shadow 300 covers the compact tender role at roughly 7.6m. The Shadow 500 and Shadow 900 - at approximately 9m and 11.7m respectively - sit at the centre of the superyacht chase-boat market; the 900 runs twin 450R Mercury Verado V8 FourStrokes producing 900 hp combined, with a quoted top speed of 55 knots and typical cruising around 40 knots. The current flagship, the Shadow 1200, stretches to 45 feet and draws 1,200 hp from triple Mercury Racing V10 outboards, reaching the same 55-knot ceiling in a larger, cabin-equipped platform. All models are hand-built with in-house carbon detailing. We'd put the Shadow 900 and 1000 series alongside the strongest outboard-powered options in the chase segment; the 1200 addresses owners who want a standalone cruising capability alongside the speed.
