About this tender

Wally 48 - what we know.

The wallytender48 is the build we ask Wally for when your programme needs genuine overnight capability without sacrificing the flush-deck aesthetic that defines the range. At 14.5m LOA it sits at the top of the wallytender family, evolved directly from the original 45-footer with a subtly raised bulwark that preserves the proportions rather than compromising them. Twin Volvo Penta IPS 650 drives push it to 38 knots flat out, with a cruising range of 310 nm at 32 knots - figures that make it credible as a day-range chase tender as much as a superyacht companion.

Deck layout is where the wallytender48 earns its keep at anchor. The flush main deck runs from a forward sunpad and lounge area back through a centre cockpit to the transom, with convertible backrests that reorganise the space between dining and sunbathing in a few seconds. Wally's fold-down aft wings are a known quantity in the tender world - they add meaningful platform space at the waterline without cluttering the profile at sea. Joystick manoeuvring and a wraparound fender system make short work of coming alongside.

Below, there is a proper double cabin finished in teak with carbon detailing, leather upholstery, and a dedicated shower room with clothes storage. This is not a token bunk arrangement; it is set up for weekend use. The hull form itself - a balanced deep-V developed jointly by Wally and Ferretti Group's engineering department - uses a vertical bow and automated interceptors to keep slamming in check at cruising speed, which matters considerably when you are covering 300-plus nautical miles in a single passage.

We would put the wallytender48 alongside the better Italian open dayboats of its size when assessing interior finish and exterior cohesion. The IPS drivetrain is a proven package at this displacement, and RINA B+F classification means the hull has been signed off for open-sea use as well as sheltered coastal passages. For a mothership programme that demands a tender capable of standing independent legs, this is a specification worth examining in detail.

Highlights

Built for the work.

The four details we'd point out first to a captain who hasn't seen one on the water yet.

01

Twin Volvo Penta IPS 650 drivetrain

Two Volvo Penta IPS 650 units, each rated at 480 hp, give the wallytender48 a certified top speed of 38 knots and a cruising range of 310 nm at 32 knots. The IPS pod drive configuration improves fuel efficiency over conventional shaft arrangements at cruising trim and eliminates the shaft-angle losses that affect deep-V hulls at speed.

02

Flush-deck layout with fold-down aft wings

The main deck runs uninterrupted from the forward lounge to the transom, with convertible backrests that reorient seating between dining and sunpad configurations. Wally's fold-down aft wings extend the entertainment platform at anchor without adding freeboard when under way - a practical detail that owners and crew both appreciate.

03

Overnight-capable double cabin

The lower deck delivers a full double suite with teak and carbon finish, leather upholstery, a shower room, and adequate clothes storage for a weekend aboard. It is a genuine overnight arrangement rather than a berth retrofitted into available space, which makes the wallytender48 useful for independent passages away from the mothership.

04

RINA B+F classification

The wallytender48 carries a RINA B+F classification, covering open-sea operation and confirming the build has been independently reviewed for structural integrity and safety equipment standards. For a programme crossing between anchorages in exposed conditions, that classification provides the operational latitude that a CE-C hull does not.

05

Automated interceptors and vertical bow

The deep-V hull uses automated interceptors to manage trim actively at speed, reducing the slamming that is the primary fatigue factor on longer passages in short-period chop. The vertical bow is a Wally signature that contributes to pitch damping and maintains the clean silhouette at rest.

Questions, answered

Before you enquire.

What is the range of the wallytender48 at cruising speed?
Wally quotes 310 nm at a cruising speed of 32 knots with the twin Volvo Penta IPS 650 drivetrain. The 1,400-litre fuel capacity underpins that figure. We would treat this as a manufacturer figure achieved in benign conditions; allow a margin for head seas and payload when planning a long coastal leg.
How many people can the wallytender48 carry?
The technical sheet lists twelve people on board as the certified maximum under its RINA B+F classification. That figure covers passengers and crew combined. For a tender programme, twelve is a generous allocation; in superyacht service the deck space is more likely to be the practical constraint before the certification limit is reached.
Is the wallytender48 suitable for overnight use away from a mothership?
Yes. The lower deck provides a full double suite with teak and carbon finish, leather upholstery, a shower room, and clothes storage. It is configured and equipped for short independent passages rather than emergency accommodation. The RINA B+F classification also permits open-sea operation, which gives the vessel credibility as a semi-independent unit.
What classification does the wallytender48 carry, and what does that mean operationally?
The wallytender48 is classified B+F by RINA S.p.A. Category B covers offshore operation in significant wave heights up to 4 m; the F notation relates to the fuel and structural compliance standard. In practical terms it means the hull can operate in open-sea conditions that a purely coastal CE-C tender cannot, which matters for programmes based in exposed anchorages.
How does the wallytender48 differ from the wallytender43?
The wallytender48 is a 14.5m hull versus the 43's shorter platform. The primary gains are additional deck volume, the overnight cabin arrangement below, greater fuel and water capacity, and the step up to Volvo Penta IPS 650 engines at 480 hp each. The overall proportions are preserved through the subtly raised bulwark rather than a wider beam.
What is the wallytender48X and how does it relate to the standard model?
The wallytender48X is a separate variant in the Wally fleet, listed alongside the standard wallytender48. The source page does not detail how the X specification differs; we would recommend requesting the wallytender48X brochure from Wally directly to compare drivetrain and interior options before committing to either hull.

Monaco

Wally is a Monaco-headquartered yacht brand founded in 1994 by Italian entrepreneur Luca Bassani. The house built its reputation on carbon fibre construction and minimalist design across both sail and power, becoming the only yachting brand to win the Compasso d'oro twice - in 2004 and 2008. In 2019 Wally joined the Ferretti Group; all current builds come out of the Group's facilities in Italy, with the Wallytender line produced at Forlì and larger superyachts at CRN in Ancona.

In the superyacht tender and chase-boat segment, the wallytender line is what we turn to first. Introduced in 2001 as a chase platform for the sailing fleet and later for the 118 WallyPower, the range now runs from the wallytender43 (13.2m, 40 knots) up to the wallytender48 and wallytender48X (14.9m, 55 knots). The flagship 48X carries four Mercury Verado V8 450R outboards combining for 1,800 hp; the engines are split in pairs to retain a hydraulic passerelle and swim ladder on the centreline. Folding aft bulwarks extend the deck area at anchor, the deep-V hull handles offshore conditions with composure, and the outboards tilt up to 70cm draft for shallow-water work.

The design language is consistent across every hull: flush surfaces, concealed hardware, exposed carbon fibre detailing inside and out, and a single below-deck cabin. We'd put it alongside Vanquish and Pershing in terms of finish ambition, at a specification that is genuinely purpose-built for chase and day-boat duty rather than garage stowage.
